What is an SEO Consultant?
If you’re self-employed and you’ve ever tried to come up for a title for yourself, you know how hard it can be. Are you the President, Manager, Director or Owner…and the list goes on.
In my case, I have no idea what to call myself in terms of title, so I just call myself a Digital Marketing & SEO Consultant.
Now the question is this: What is an SEO Consultant?
The short answer is that an SEO Consultant is someone who “consults” on matters related to search engine optimization.
While that sounds pretty straight-forward, it really isn’t because there’s an even larger question to answer.
What is Search Engine Optimization?
Wikipedia defines Search Engine Optimization as:
“the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s unpaid results – often referred to as “natural,” “organic,” or “earned” results. In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine’s users. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search, news search and industry-specific vertical search engines.”
Search Engine Optimization is a broad term that basically means that we (SEO Consultants) work toward improving the ranking of your website in the search engine results pages. The theory is that improved rankings = more website traffic and more website traffic = more sales for your company.
That’s the most simplified definition.
In a nutshell, an SEO Consultant helps get your website in front of more eyes. Once there’s more traffic and increased visibility, an SEO Consultant will then help to turn that extra traffic into dollars and cents for your company.
